Happy Groundhog Day!! To remind you, if the groundhog did indeed see his shadow, that means we are in for another 6 weeks of winter, and if he did not see his shadow, that means we will be having an early spring! Regardless, Fabutan is always here for your Sunshine needs!
Thank you to all of our furry friends around Canada who helped us predict our weather for the next 6 weeks! These groundhogs include: Wiarton Willy, Gary the Groundhog and Oil Springs Ollie in Ontario, Balzac Billy in Alberta, and Brandon Bob and Winnipeg Willow in Manitoba!
Over time, Groundhog Day has become a fun way to anticipate the coming of spring. In North America, the tradition of predicting the weather by watching groundhogs come out of their burrows dates back to 1887 and is attributed to German settlers in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. Here in Canada, Wiarton Willie — an albino rodent from Wiarton, Ontario, is the most famous groundhog and has been predicting the weather since 1956!
